PHILOSOPHY OF ADDICTION | DR CANDICE SHELBY

Aug 25, 2021

Montel speaks with Dr Candice Shelby, an internationally respected scholar and Professor of Philosophy on this episode of Let’s be Blunt, about the philosophy of addiction. Dr Shelby has served as both department chair and executive director for the Center for Ethics at the University of Colorado, Denver where she has been teaching for 25 years. Her specialties and interests range from the history of philosophy to metaphysics but in the last decade she has shifted her interest to addiction and the use of psychedelics in psychotherapy. She has published dozens of academic papers, and has given talks all over the world, including at Oxford University, the Sorbonne, the University of Barcelona, the University of Frankfurt, and many more, as well as in addiction recovery settings and other public arenas. She wrote and released a book in 2016 called “Addiction: A Philosophical Perspective.” She is the only philosopher included in the recently-published Handbook of Medical Hallucinogens, an anthology by and for researchers and psychiatric treatment professionals.
